Tech Trap

Don't get me wrong. I'm in love with all this tech. Like Modus Ponens. But recently I've been starting to get weighed down by it all. Checking email is no longer something fun. It now occupies a certain amount of my pressured time. At first, when email was new, it was kinda exciting. Like taking that first puff of smoke, it gave a little lift. But after the first few packs, it now seems more like a compulsion than something to do for fun. It seems like a trap.

From email, I go to the news. Or did I start there, so now the news is behind my email on another window? Oh, here it is. Too bad about Hunter Thompson, who's writing I could never follow, and never cared to follow, and, yes, didn't like the movie either. And that reminds me that two of my doctor peers had no idea who Hunter Thompson even was. To me this was so sad, laying bare the rotten columns of a medical education that excludes all else, even the regretful things in life. How much of the baby are they unaware of, if they have no idea the bathwater exists? It also means that they haven't seen the news, because I've stumbled across his death at least 5 times.

From email, I sometimes post on a medical site, so I check it. And from there, here. To my very own site, sharecropped from google. This trap usually takes about an hour to navigate. I think it's too much. I'm going to start to cut down, which is what the patients say when they really mean, "stop asking me to quit smoking you fucking fool, I'll quit when I want to or when I die, and you're not going to affect that one way or another." I'll start cutting down tomorrow.

I like your site and it's tone. Cut down on that medical posting, if need be. Modus Ponens is much ado about nothing. Took me about 30 minutes to get to what I can say in 30 seconds. I am not a moron, for crying out loud.

You may not be a moron, but there are those who are not as fortunate, like me. Also, I doubt 30 seconds of you communicating with your doctor would suffice.

You may be right about others. I am an unusually excellent communicator. I think the 30 sec. was rather exaggerated on my part, but not by too much. I know my doc pretty well. We practically complete each other's sentences. I don't know I guess he had me at "Hello."

There's much history there. I don't need to struggle to communicate and he knows I'm no malingerer.
