In the bag.

At a conference we had a visitor from another hospital site. He was some big wig or other. He looked like a classic doctor, he had a porn star mustach that was silver like his hair. He had a tanned and the deeply lined face that slim men get in their 50s and 60s. He had eyes that sloped off to either side and were set far apart. That gave him a slightly ER look about the eyes. But his mustach was the centerpiece of his face. It looked like something you wouldn't want to get lost in before dinner.

So midway through the talk, which was on something or other since I find that I can only barely pay attention during these things, he took out a bag and opened it up. Now there were several people behind me, and they all looked at him as he reached inside the bad. It was just feasible that he was going to roll up a joint and smoke it right here?

He took something out of the bag that looked like a fuzzy animal. Then he took out a pair of dainty chop sticks and began knitting. And he was good. Real fast.

So that's what I did for the rest of the talk: watched him. Kinda boring, but I wasn't alone. As I watched him I wondered how on earth someone can be so oblivious as to knit during one of these things, or just not care, or some combination. I heard later that he really was a big shot, so I guess he just no longer cares.

I hope the hat turns out nice.

Knitting is making a HUGE comeback in popularity and I just saw a news report that men/boys are taking up the hobby for relaxation etc. It is a nice thing to do to unwind (no pun intended) and you get something useful out if it.
